The Harvest Festival is a traditional event celebrating the successful gathering of the year’s crops. Often celebrated in churches and schools, people are encouraged to donate homegrown produce, fruit and vegetables to those in need. The Harvest Festival is a time for feasting, celebrating and giving thanks. It is also a time for honouring those who grow and reap crops.

According to the National Grandparents Day website, the aim of National Grandparents Day is: to honour grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.

Whole Nursery World Space Week
World Space Week will be held from October 4-10, 2022. It is an annual event that celebrates science and technology and their impact on the development of the human condition. The event begins on the 4th to commemorate the launch of the first human-made satellite (Sputnik 1) on October 4th 1957. It ends on the 10th to honour the signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies on 10th October 1967. World Space Week aims to educate people on the benefits they receive from space, gain public support for space programmes and encourage the use of space for sustainable economic development.

World Animal Day is observed every year on the 4th of October. Its purpose is to promote the rights of animals and to raise the standard of animal welfare across the world. On World Animal Day, events are organised by community and interest groups, businesses and individuals to educate people about animal welfare-related issues.

Whole Nursery World Teachers' Day
World Teachers’ Day is celebrated around the world on the 5th of October. It is also known by some as International Teachers’ Day. The event was established in 1994, and it commemorates the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the status of teachers.

National Poetry Day is an annual event which takes place across the whole of the UK in celebration of poetry. The day is intended to help people discover and enjoy poetry and encourage everyone to read, write, and share poems.

World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on the 16th October; the date that the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FOA) was founded in 1945. First commemorated by the FOA in 1979, World Food Day aims to promote healthy diets and eradicate hunger issues by 2030.

Whole Nursery Rugby League World Cup
The RLWC is an international tournament where the most prominent men’s national teams compete against each other for the Paul Barrière Trophy. The event first took place in 1954 and since then there were 13 world cups held to celebrate the sport of rugby. The number of teams, rounds and hosting rules got changed quite a lot over the time.

Since 2004 International Artist Day celebrates artists world-wide and aims to raise awareness to their ever lasting contribution to society. No matter the art form, the country or the era they were active in, the event urges for appreciation towards all artists. And what started out as a smaller initiative to honour art and creativity has now become a major annual event with numerous aspects to it.

Whole Nursery Halloween
Halloween is celebrated by people dressing up in various types of costumes and going door to door and collecting candy from neighbours! The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.
