A Christingle, meaning “Christ child” is an object used in Christianity during Advent. Typically, they are oranges, decorated with pieces of dried fruit or sweets and with a candle attached.

Whole Nursery Christmas Jumper Day

The festive Christmas Jumper Day will be celebrated on the 10th of December 2021. On this day, every parent, child, and teacher are encouraged to bring their festive spirit (and a £1 donation) through the school gates in the form of their favourite Christmas jumper. Those taking part can wear a Christmas jumper they already own, decorate an existing jumper with festive decorations, or even knit their own.

Boxing Day is celebrated on the 26th of December and is a national holiday that always occurs on the day after Christmas. The concept of Boxing Day originated in England in the middle of the nineteenth century under Queen Victoria.

Whole Nursery New Year's Eve

New Year’s Eve is celebrated on the last day of each year on the 31st of December for countries that follow the Gregorian calendar.

Some countries have their own special New Year’s Eve celebrations with their own unique names. For example, Scotland celebrates ‘Hogmanay’ where an all-night festival takes place in Edinburgh, its capital city. Wales also has its own festive period called ‘Calennig’. Celebrations, held in Cardiff, include live music, fairground rides and fireworks.
