Little Acorns – Babies
These are our youngest children and the emphasis in the baby room will be love, warmth and security in a stimulating area. With a staff ratio 1:3 our baby room is the most intimate and cosiest room. From day one we build good relationships with our parents and carers. Staff are fully trained and knowledgeable and provide stimulating activities at the right level for the children. Your baby will be assigned to his or her own key-person in order that strong relationships can be built and a special understanding between the member of staff, yourself and baby can be developed. The contentment and happiness of your baby is paramount.
In Little Acorns we provide bright comfortable surroundings for the babies to play, rest and eat. The babies have every opportunity to roll, crawl, sit, climb, balance, reach , grasp, and throw, in this light and spacious room as well as a cuddle with a dedicated member of staff. All the activities that we do are carefully considered so that they enhance the development of each individual child. The babies have their own special outdoor safe play area which they love and is very popular, this area enhances their physical abilities as well as providing them with many more opportunities to experience the outside world.
All our meals are made fresh every day by our cook. Our cook endeavours to make sure the babies and children eat a well balanced-diet. We cater for all faiths and allergies and menus are available for parents to see. Our cook is very experienced and special dietary needs can be catered for and alternatives to the set menu can be offered after discussion with the parents/carers/the Management team and the cook herself. Please look on the Healthy Eating page for more information.
Bluebells, Butterfly Meadow and Wiggly Worms
This group is for toddlers – our little movers – and the emphasis in this area is fun, play and stimulation.
The children have access to a wide variety of toys and activities to promote the development of many skills appropriate to their needs. We have three spacious rooms with separate nappy changing facilities. All rooms offer a wide variety of activities for the children with a range of messy and creative activities.
The Cocoons garden is extensive with a willow tunnel, large grassed area and orchard which the children love to run and explore in as well as a hard surface area for trikes, cars etc.
The children take great delight in the many musical activities on offer to them whether it be a physical dance activity or ‘singing and signing’ the many songs we share.
In Wiggly Worms the aim is for our children to become more independent and to be safe, happy and stimulated in a challenging environment. Children at this age are going through a crucial stage of language development. The room is spacious and during the lunch-time period it is transformed into a tranquil sleep-room, where children can rest/sleep for as long as their parent wishes.
We use a flexible approach to planning and an excellent balance between adult and child-led activities allows children to learn at their own pace. The staff are perceptive of children’s interests during self-initiated play and use questions to challenge the children’s thinking and developing language skills.
We try to blend free play with a sequence of structured activities that are carefully geared towards the needs of the children. At the same time we always respond to children’s choices and their own personal interests.
The outdoor area is a delight for the children to explore and investigate. They can often be seen in the willow tunnel, hiding in the orchard, climbing the steps to the slide or manoeuvring around and skilfully negotiating space successfully, adjusting speed or direction to avoid obstacles.
