Mexican Independence Day celebrates Mexico’s fight for independence from Spanish rule. On September 16th, 1810, a Catholic priest called Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla delivered a passionate speech in front of the Nuestra Señora de los Dolores church imploring native Mexicans to overthrow the Spanish.

Talk like a Pirate Day was created in 1995 by John Bauer (Ol’ Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap’n Slappy), who proclaimed September 19th each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. Fantastic opportunity for some fun fancy dress !!!

Recycling with kids is incredibly important to do, and a good concept to promote as parents and educators. Recycling 1 ton of paper can save 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, 2 barrels of oil, and 4,000 kilowatts of electricity. Ideas for activities : Junk Robot, Make a Bird Feeder, Junk Model Spacecraft.
